Cherry Turkish Delight: A Fruity Twist on a Classic Treat

Cherry Turkish Delight, or “Vişneli Lokum,” brings a fruity and refreshing twist to the traditional Turkish Delight. The combination of sweet, tangy cherries with the chewy, melt-in-your-mouth texture of Lokum makes this dessert a delightful indulgence. Perfect for any special occasion or simply to satisfy your sweet tooth, Cherry Turkish Delight is a must-try recipe.

Ingredients:

4 cups granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups water
1 cup cherry juice (freshly squeezed or store-bought)
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 cup cornstarch
1 tsp cream of tartar
2 1/2 cups water
1/2 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)
1/4 cup cornstarch (for dusting)
Optional: Dried cherries for garnish

Instructions Prepare the Syrup:

In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, 1 1/2 cups of water, cherry juice, and lemon juice. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves. Reduce heat and simmer until the mixture reaches 240°F (115°C) on a candy thermometer.

Prepare the Starch Mixture:

In another large saucepan, mix the cornstarch, cream of tartar, and 2 1/2 cups of water. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens and becomes gluey.

Combine the Mixtures:

Gradually pour the hot sugar syrup into the thickened starch mixture, stirring continuously. Reduce heat and cook for about an hour, stirring frequently, until the mixture turns a vibrant
cherry color and thickens.

Set the Turkish Delight:

Line a baking dish with parchment paper and lightly grease it. Pour the cherry mixture into the dish, spreading it evenly. Let it cool and set for at least 4 hours or overnight.

Cut and Coat:

Once set, dust a cutting board with a mixture of powdered sugar and cornstarch. Turn the Turkish Delight out onto the board and cut into small squares.
Roll each piece in the powdered sugar and cornstarch mixture to prevent sticking.

Garnish and Serve:

If desired, press a dried cherry into the center of each piece for an extra burst of flavor and a decorative touch.
Arrange the Cherry Turkish Delight on a serving platter and enjoy!

Tips for Perfect Cherry Turkish Delight:

Use fresh cherry juice for a more intense flavor.
Ensure the starch mixture is thickened properly to achieve the right texture.
Store Turkish Delight in an airtight container to keep it fresh.
Cherry Turkish Delight is a deliciously fruity variation of the classic Lokum. The combination of chewy texture and tangy cherry flavor makes it a delightful treat for any occasion.
