Mantı Recipe: Traditional Turkish Dumplings

Mantı is a beloved Turkish dish consisting of small, tender dumplings filled with seasoned ground meat, typically lamb or beef. Often referred to as Turkish ravioli, Mantı is served with a delicious yogurt and garlic sauce, and sometimes garnished with melted butter and paprika. This hearty dish is made by wrapping a spiced meat mixture in thin dough, then boiling or baking the dumplings until they are cooked through. Mantı is perfect for a comforting meal, offering a rich blend of flavors and textures that are sure to satisfy.

Ingredients:

  • For the Dough:
    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 egg
    • 1/2 cup water
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • For the Filling:
    • 250g ground lamb or beef
    • 1 onion, finely chopped
    • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
    • 1 teaspoon ground paprika
    • Salt to taste
  • For the Sauce:
    • 1 cup plain yogurt
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 2 tablespoons butter
    • 1 teaspoon paprika

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough: Mix flour, egg, water, and salt until a smooth dough forms. Let it rest for 30 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Filling: Combine ground meat, onion, black pepper, paprika, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Assemble the Mantı: Roll out the dough thinly and cut into small squares. Place a small amount of filling in each square and fold into triangles or parcels.
  4. Cook the Mantı: Boil in salted water for 10-12 minutes until the dumplings are cooked through.
  5. Prepare the Sauce: Mix yogurt with minced garlic. In a pan, melt butter and stir in paprika.
  6. Serve: Top the cooked Mantı with yogurt sauce and drizzle with spiced butter.

Mantı is a classic Turkish dish, providing a satisfying combination of tender dumplings and flavorful sauces. It’s a great choice for a special dinner or a comforting meal.
